FileMaker ends XLST support [Worth 50 Kudos points!]
« on: June 08, 2010, 05:51:33 AM »

This just in : FileMaker wil no longer support the XSLT-API and the XSLT Site assistant will be removed from both FMServer and FMSA.
FM recommends migrating solutions that use this API and use alternatives like PHP.
Q: Hoe does this affect FMWebschool products ?

I'm not sure it really does - I thought that FM Studio was mainly utilising the PHP API and/or FX.php

Note that although XML/XSLT will no longer be usuable from a web perspective, it will still be usable as an import/export function for data

We were one of the only companies in the early days of XSLT that decided completely against using that technology. It was just too cumbersome and limited, that's why we evangelized PHP from day one. Discontinuation of XSLT will not affect any of our products. Smiley

Hi To All,

I am just wanting to clarify my understanding of this.  Does that mean that FXPHP will stop working?  I thought it used the xml component??  Does this also mean that the web services I currently have on my FM server which use XSL and XML will stop working???  (I use this method for SOAP interaction.)  This seems to be crazy if its correct....

Thanks,

Lance

The confusion seems to stem from most people thinking of XML/XSLT as one and the same. XML is the web engine that is used by FX.php and the FileMaker PHP API to access data - that stays and isn't going anywhere at this point. XSLT is an ugly template based system that transforms XML data form FileMaker into other formats (including HTML, which by extension allows you to build websites with it). The XSLT template system is being removed, but the XML data feed out of FileMaker is not changing since the API depends on it.

Hope that helps!
