Hi Guys,

I'm running FMSA in a network environment where port 80 is already being used for web hosting on another machine for an entirely different purpose... I only need FMSA for the purpose of being the source and recipient of data via the FM PHP API, but to complicate things, the actual php files will be on an entirely different network ( this is not a production environment ). Is there any way to change the default port to another safe port i.e. something else that won't be subject DOS attacks?

Cheers.

Hmmm, so no one with any ideas?

What about port 8008 or port 8080, reasonably secure / as secure as port 80?

Hi Genx,

It really doesn't matter too much which port you choose. We have used 8000,8070,8080 and others in the past. As for how to change it, on the Mac you would need to edit /etc/apache/httpd.conf and find "Listen 80", change that to whatever you desire.

Another potential twist is to setup a few firewall rules to only allow connections from a specific server (your PHP server), and your DOS risk goes down - but DOS attacks themselves were never a problem in my experience.

Best Regards,

Mmm thanks for the ideas. I only ask because i've had someone in a fairly large company setup a virtual environment for me on their server's ... and the last thing i want to do is expose them to unnecessary issues.

Anyway, Cheers Michael.
